These Keto Scones pair perfectly with a cup of coffee and are a fantastic way to start your day. They are low carb, gluten-free, and totally delicious.
Why These Keto Scones Are So Great
- Low Carb. Only 3 net carbs per serving.
- Gluten Free. I substituted all purpose flour for almond flour in this almond flour scones recipe.
- Fast. Done in only 40 minutes and they store like a dream.
- Cheap. While almond flour can be more expensive than traditional flour, making these is still cheaper than grabbing breakfast at the coffee shop.
- Easy. Just mix, bake, and glaze for the perfect keto scones.
- Delicious. These make the perfect tasty mix between a keto scone and a low carb muffin. You're going to love them.
We've all been there. It's a weekday morning and you're waiting in line for a hot cup of coffee to start your day. As you wait for your turn to order you can't help but stare at the delicious scones taunting you with their high carb content.
But being on a low carb diet you know better, and you leave with only your coffee, wishing you could have left with that scrumptious scone as well.
With myKeto Scones, you don't have to ever go scone-less again. They're wonderfully sweet, tangy, and unbelievably low carb.
It can be hard to find a low carb grab-and-go breakfast option. It seems like the only real option is a sugary pastry or doughnut that's full of carbs when you need a quick breakfast. That's why I've set out to make these delicious Keto Scones every bit as good as the ones you'd get from your local fancy coffee house without all of carbs!
How To Make Keto Scones
- Preheat the oven to 350°F. Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper.
- Whisk together almond flour, coconut flour, swerve, baking powder and swerve.
- Make a well in the dry ingredients.
- Add eggs and beat in the well, then pour in heavy whipping cream, melted butter and orange extract.
- Stir until smooth.
- Stir in slivered almonds.
- Place the dough onto the parchment paper on the cookie sheet. Using your hands pat out a round loaf.
- Cut into 8 wedges and push the pieces apart a little so they don’t all bake into one big circle.
- Bake for 25 minutes until golden. At the end of the cook time, turn off the oven and leave the scones in the oven for another 10-15 minutes.
- Make the glaze and drizzle over the top of the keto scones.
Can You Substitute Almond Flour For All Purpose Flour?
Yes. And that's exactly what I did for this keto scone recipe. There are a couple of things you should know before you choose to use it in any other recipe, though.
- It tastes like almonds. No, not like you're eating a handful of almonds, but it does have a hint of flavor.
- The amount of almond flour to all purpose flour ratio isn't always exactly 1:1. Things such as yeast and egg will impact how much you need for your recipe to turn out as expected.
- It's low carb, not no carb. While it's absolutely a better choice for a low carb lifestyle, you do still have to eat these tasty almond flour scones that need to be eaten in moderation.
How Do I Get My Scones To Rise And Be Fluffy?
Just as you would in any other traditional baking recipe, you will rely on the baking powder and the egg to help your Keto Scone batter rise.
Do These Almond Flour Scones Actually Taste Like Scones?
I fully acknowledge that these do not LOOK like the scones we typically see.
But guess what? They taste just like them.
I would suggest that you let them cool completely before you try them. Leave them out uncovered, so they dry out a bit as they cool.
Perfect, low carb, keto scones.
Why Is Almond Flour OK On A Keto Diet?
Almond flour is ok on a Keto diet because it is naturally low in carbohydrates. The fat and protein macros tend to fall in line with a traditional low carb lifestyle as well.
Not only is it a great food choice when you're eating low carb, it also tastes delicious and has a similar texture to all purpose flour.

Ingredients
- 1 cup (112 g) Superfine Almond Flour
- 1/4 cup (30 g) coconut flour
- 1/4 cup (45.5 g) Swerve
- 1 teaspoon (1 teaspoon) Baking Powder
- 1/4 teaspoon (0.25 teaspoon) Kosher Salt
- 1 (1) Eggs
- 1/4 cup (59.5 g) Heavy Whipping Cream
- 1/4 cup (56.75 g) melted butter
- 1 teaspoon (1 teaspoon) orange extract
- 1/4 cup (27 g) Slivered Almonds
For the Glaze
- 1 tablespoon (1 tablespoon) Cream Cheese
- 1 tablespoon (1 tablespoon) Butter
- 3 tablespoons (3 tablespoons) Powdered Swerve
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 350°F. Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
In a large bowl, whisk together almond flour, coconut flour, swerve, baking powder and swerve. Make a well in the dry ingredients.
Add eggs and beat in the well, then pour in heavy whipping cream, melted butter and orange extract. Stir until smooth. Stir in slivered almonds.
Place the dough onto the parchment paper on the cookie sheet. Using your hands pat out a round loaf. Cut into 8 wedges and push the pieces apart a little so they don’t all bake into one big circle.
Bake for 25 minutes until golden. At the end of the cook time, turn off the oven and leave the scones in the oven for another 10-15 minutes.
To make the Glaze: Microwave the butter, cream cheese and powdered swerve for 30 seconds –1 minute. Mix well with a fork until the butter and cream cheese are dissolved, and you have a smooth glaze. If your glaze is still lumpy, reheat in 10 second increments, stirring in between with a fork until you get a smooth glaze.
Drizzle over the scones and serve.
- I forgot to put the glaze on the scones before the picture 😛 But you should totally do that!

Do you have a suggestion for how to replace the egg? Would a flax egg or Chai egg work?

can you sub the whipped cream with coconut cream, and use vegan butter?

These were gorgeous added zest from tangerines. Just one thing, 1 cup almond flour didn’t appear to be enough, it may have been because I used a large egg, but I just added more almond flour to make dough consistency et viola!Reply

I found your cookbook, Keto instapot, at our library. Then the Chinese virus hit. Sooooo, Ive had your book since at least March 14, 2020. The library has been closed and wont take back books til at least 6/1/20. I have made so many delicious recipes out of that book! Ground beef schwarma was fantastic! I've made the palak paneer, chicken schwarma, mexican style chicken with red salsa, and they were all fantastic! I need to go buy this book now! There are still recipes I need to try out! sesame ginger chicken, chicken bratwurst meatballs and cabbage...mmmmm!Reply

These were delicious! I had everything on hand except orange extract (substituted orange zest) and I had sliced almonds instead of slivered, no big deal. They were fantastic!Reply

These are the BEST scones I’ve ever tasted. We love them made according to your recipe, but recently my husband found that he can’t tolerate dairy. I used coconut cream and coconut oil to replace the heavy cream and butter and they came out delicious. Thanks so much for a great recipe!Reply
