With a certain game day right around the corner I wanted to share an easy no cook keto appetizer! This creamy keto tzatziki sauce is packed with fresh dill, lemon and garlic flavor.

It is perfect with veggies or with your favorite skewers. And just in case you need a few more ideas, I’ve paired 20+ of my favorite keto game day snacks! These low carb appetizers are full of flavor and your non keto friends will love them too!

What ingredients do you need for Keto Tzatziki?

The base for this dip is Greek yogurt. You may think that yogurt is off limits on a keto diet because of the carb level, however there is a great option for ultra low carb yogurt.

fa*ge brand Greek yogurt has several options that fit within keto limits. For this recipe I used fa*ge 2% which has 5 net carbs per one cup.

  • English cucumber, seeded and finely diced
  • Greek yogurt
  • Olive oil
  • Lemon juice
  • Fresh dill
  • Minced garlic
  • Sea salt
  • Black pepper

Why do you use an English cucumber when you make tzatziki?

First off, you may be wondering why you use an English cucumber verses a regular old cucumber? There are a few key differences in the two that make an English cucumber ideal for tzatziki.

A traditional garden variety cucumber is thicker and shorter. It contains large seeds and has a thick, tough skin.

Alternatively, an English cucumber is much longer and thinner. It is sweeter in flavor and has much smaller seeds.

It also has a much thinner skin, which is why they are wrapped in plastic at the grocery store. The fact that the skin is thinner means you don’t have to peel it when you make tzatziki.

Do you seed the cucumber when you make tzatziki?

All recipes are a little bit different when it comes to if you should seed the cucumber when making tzatziki, however I highly recommend it. To get a nice smooth texture you want to remove as many seeds as possible. Since English cucumbers are long and thin this is really easy.

Just use a metal spoon or teaspoon to scoop along the center of the vegetable. It will create a well in the center where the seeds used to be. Then chop very finely (or shred if that is the texture you like) and add to the rest of the ingredients.

What can I serve tzatziki with?

The possibilities for this creamy sauce are simply endless. You can serve this with low carb vegetables such as celery, radishes, bell pepper or on your favorite lettuce wrap.

My personal favorite is to serve with a delicious grilled salmon. I think the tangy lemon and garlic flavor go so well with seafood. These Greek Salmon and Zucchini Skewers pair perfectly with this Keto Tzatziki. Some other delicious options are:

How do I store Tzatziki?

It’s best to store Tzatziki in an air-tight container in the refrigerator up to three days. As this sauce sits, it can become runny from the cucumbers. If you are making it a day or two ahead of time, you might want to add one step: drain your cucumbers.

How do I drain cucumbers?

Cucumbers hold a ton of water, and the water releases over time. To prevent the Tzatziki from becoming too runny, you drain the cucumbers. There are a few different ways to do this.

  1. Easiest: Place chopped or grated cucumbers in a colander and sprinkle a generous pinch of salt over them. Let them sit for 30 minutes to an hour so that the water drains from the cucumber. When they are dry, pour the cucumbers out onto paper towels and pat to remove salt.
  2. Fastest: Place chopped or grated cucumbers on a stack of a few towels. Cover with another towels and press until the water is released. To get them super dry, you may choose to repeat this with clean/dry towels two or three times.
